Absolute Mastermind is truly a great Mastermind clone with amazingly cool FX features! This game quickly ascended as one of my all-time favorite PC games. Grab it! The game authors have even put lots of effort into the layout of the game configuration menu. The game comes in 1 or 2 player mode, 3 levels of difficulty, skinable and much more.
3d breakout
3D breakout features 15 levels of stunning graphics and crispy sound effects that will blow your mind away! This game is simply a paddle game that belongs to the higher dimension of game creativity. It's OpenGL empowered with very cool particle effects and a rendered 3D well in which the ball bounces. You can change the game settings in the gameplay (press F2) to set the bat power, particle density etc. If the game runs too slow or you have a hard time to see the ball, disable the particle rendering. It's a little tricky to get adjusted to the prespective. NOTE: The source code (written in C using VC++) is included with the game.
Battle Painter
Battle Painters is similar to Painters. In fact, it is made by the same company. As with Painters, the goal in this game is to paint the entire screen in your player's color. However, this game features more power-ups, better graphics, and improved gameplay. Up to four human or computer players can play. The game even allows players to form teams. The game also features a single player rank mode. Unlike the paintbrushes in its predecessor, the brushes in Battle Painters are able to move in 360 degrees and can be controlled by only two buttons (or by a joystick). This game is fun for all ages.
Crimsonland is abolutely stunning
This game presents an utmost PC game experience of cinematic action. The special effects and in particular the animative effects of the creatures in Crimsonland are abolutely stunning. You just want to immerse yourself deeper and deeper into the furious battle against the deadly alien creatures. The more you play, the more features and weapons will appear. The game has 2 game modes which are Career and Survivor - both fun in their own ways. An arsenal of about 20 weapons to pick up, such as bombs, plasmagun, rocket launcher, flame-thrower, provide lots of cool variety in the gameplay. I could expound at length upon the greatness of this game, but instead I simply advise you to download this game now and get hooked on Crimsonland! The latest update (v1.40) includes bug fixes and tweaks.
Area 2048
Area 2048 is one of those great Japanese shooters worth playing again and again. In Area 2048, you are put into a large area filled with enemy ships. Your goal is to destroy all of the enemy ships in order to progress to the next level, or ?scene.? To do this, you?re armed with rapid-fire lasers (assigned to the Z key) and, for really sticky situations, a special attack, used by holding down X and then Z. Your special attack makes the screen zoom out as your ship begins spewing lasers like mad in the general direction your ship is pointing. At any time you aren?t using this attack, it is recharging for its next use. You can move your ship around using the arrow keys to change direction, and you can lock onto an enemy ship by pointing towards it and shooting for a second. This makes it easy to clear a room of weak enemies or attack a tough boss. Area 2048?s graphics are much like Warning Forever?s, or most good Japanese shooters for that matter. Simple, transparent polygons for ships and bullets make the game look clean and attractive. The sound is made up of simple explosions and laser noises, and the music is a catchy mix of techno. Although simple and recycled, the graphics and sound are definitely high-quality. So, is Area 2048 worth the download? Definitely. If you enjoyed games like Warning Forever, Torus Trooper, or Noiz2sa, Area 2048 will have you hooked. Its three difficulty settings mean you?ll enjoy it whether you?re new to Japanese shooters or a hardcore
Abuse.
Abuse is a detailed shooting game. Although it is commercial software freeware versions were created from the public domain source code and graphics of the game. As the only person immune to the abuse gene, you must fight your way through mutants so that you can save the world and escape to freedom. You can use various weapons and abilities (i.e. flying) to fight through the humans who were infected with the gene. There is also a level editor (using command line parameter -edit). NB: The DOS version (Free Abuse, aka fRaBs) requires 5.4MB of free space. It may contain different levels but it contains the same gameplay. It's homepage is here and explains how to use network play in Free Abuse.
Alex the Allegator
Alex the Allegator 2 (spelled with an e) is a "gem." Although the graphics and sound are nice, the real impressive thing about this board game is its originality. I've never seen anything quite like it. In this game, your goal is to remove as many groups of tokens as possible. To remove tokens, simply create a group of same-colored tokens. This game has a high score table and the option to play single or two player. A quite enjoyable game. This game is best when played with a friend..
Bass
"Recently released as freeware by Revolution Studios, Beneath A Steel Sky is often dubbed as one of the finest point-and-click adventures ever made. Personally, I wouldn't go that far; It's a great game, with a mostly substantial storyline, interesting and consistent characters, and some fine story driven, inventory based puzzles. The puzzles, or rather, the way the puzzles are presented, are certainly the game's strong point. All of the puzzles are intergrated so smoothly into the flow of the story, that it is sometimes hard to actually classify them as 'puzzles'; 'goals' would be more precise. Not that you can just run through the entire game accomplishing goal after goal. Although BASS (Beneath a Steel Sky) is somewhat easier than most other point-and-clickers of it's era (the King's Quest games and their fantastic remakes, which are available here on Gamehippo; and the other Sierra games of yore, such as Gabriel Knight, the Conquest series, etc.), it still has it's share of mind bending moments that will have some of us (don't be one of those some) looking to Gamefaqs.com for solutions. The story, as said before, is substantial...but it certainly didn't strike me as particularly amazing. It's told a little shakily, and you often hear something and not realize its complete importance story-wise until later in the game, when someone casually mentions something that could be as big as, say, your characters true indentity. It's not terrible, but there are more dramatic ways to tell a story than this. The story itself isn't really anything new, but it's a tried-and-true utopeian society yarn, with a couple of nice twists along the way. The art in BASS was drawn by comic book dude Dave Gibbons, and this could be somewhat of a mixed blessing. The enviroments have a very 'realized' and full look, but from a technical standpoint, they are somewhat their point and click contemporaries (KQ6). The CD version of BASS, which GH links to, has full voice acting, which is surprisingly good; although the voices do have a little bit of a tinny sound. I'd say it's worth the extra download time to experience the game with the full music track (which is also quite good) and voices. Bottom Line: Beneath a Steel Sky is a good adventure game, which, although not perfect, is fully deserving of it's 10/10 score. Point-and-click fans would do well to check it out, especially now that it's FREE. This game requires SCUMMVM to run. You can get SCUMMVM here: http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php . The windows version didn't work for me, but the DOS version worked fine. Simple instructions on how to load BASS into the program are included in the SCUMMVM download.
Blocks 2001
Blocks 2001 brings you into a fabulated world of a happy flatish smiley guy who walks and jumps across various narrow paths and staircases to collect all diamonds. It's really neat how you are projected into the game scene with a moving 3D perspective. The game is accompanied by joyful sound effects. This is an English edition of Blocks 2001 that was especially made for Gamehippo.
Camy 2
Well, Camy 2 is a lot like Camy 1, only better in every way. The graphics and levels are more thematic (though not quite as cheery), there are new power-ups, and the levels are scrolling. This game is definitely worth a download.
Capman101
This is the coolest pacman I have ever seen! In capman, you collect pellets just like in any other pacman game. You control pacman and are chased by bugs. But unlike pacman, you fight back with things like machine guns and explosives. There are other powerups for speed and bouncing bullets as well. However, the bugs can collect power-ups as well. But don't worry, capman doesn't die on the first hit, he has a health meter. Although this game is very violent, the blood can be turned off. It is capable of multiplayer play in deathmatch or eatmatch mode, over the internet, over a network, with a link cable, or modem to modem. It also allows two players to play on the same computer. If you've ever been frustrated by the ghosts always eating your character in other pacman games, then fight back with capman. Note that if you switch out of the capman window and then back again, the display takes a few seconds to reload. And the graphics are 3-d!
caromV219
Just when you thought the best freeware PC pool game would be "Pool'em Up" for all times - Carom 3D supersedes them all! This game is enriched with countless of cool 3D effects. The authors of this South Korean game have even put lots of effort to create the proper virtual pool atmosphere surrounding the table. For instance, you have many different pool rooms to choose from and in each room you can spin the 3D camera around. A big WOW - and the actual gameplay hasn't even started yet! You can choose from many different setups such as 3-ball, 8-ball and 9-ball. This game is merely a multi-player online game which means that you need to stay connected the Internet to play. You have the option to chat with the other players. Any negative impressions? Well, in 1024x786 video resolution the text is hardly readable. Also, you need to register (although free of charge) to play the game. For those who are curious how the graphics in the game were created, they personally told us that they used Photoshop and 3D Studio Max.
centur11
Century is probably the neatest slot machine game I have played. The 3D graphical interface is marvelous and adds true realism to the gameplay. The slot machine also has a great "reel sound". It's the closest you can get from actually being at a real Casino with one major difference that you won't lose any money playing Century! To access the help menu with all its instruction about how to play this slot machine, press F1 within the game console.
cerberus
Cerberus takes the aliens and weapons of Metroid, the exploration and puzzles of Zelda, and the free roaming action of Zaxxon and combines them all to form one awesome game that will surely not disappoint fans of any of the classics mentioned above. Cerberus is an instant classic and one of the best freeware games ever made. The graphics are extremely simple - the game was created with the now almost ancient Klik 'n Play dev tool- but the level design is pure genius. Not unlike Metroid, the gameplay area is designed so that you at the start of the game there will be numerous doors that will be unable to be opened until further along in your quest. But rather than making you backtrack through the entire ship when you finally receive the weapon (yes, weapon, I will explain later) to open the door, you will find yourself in the general vacinity of exactly where you need to go. It's like a big circle. Often I found myself with seemingly no where to go, but with a little exploring I found that there was a door that I had failed to see earlier in the game. The enemies in Cerberus regenerate every time you leave and re-enter the screen, and this is somewhat of a mixed blessing. On one hand, you need enemies to be there constantly since they often drop the missiles and health that you will desperately need, while on the other hand there are certain doors that only open upon killing certain enemies. And you come beack into the screen, those enemies, who can be mighty hard, will regenerate and you will be unable to leave the screen without killing them again. This gets somewhat tedious after awhile and it is the only gripe I have within the entire Cerberus, which means that this is a pretty consarn, dagnab, good game. There are occasional breaks in the action, which are mostly composed of puzzles such as push-the-switches-to-lower-certain-blocks in which you must experiment to find the correct order of button presses but, despite the fact that I usually hate these kind of puzzles, I found myself looking forward to them in Cerberus, probably because they are of the perfect difficulty -you will rarely spend more than 5 minutes on one of these puzzles- so they do not feel out of place. These puzzles, and the boss fights, generally compose the "Zelda portion" of the game. Weapons in Cerberus serve two purposes: Kicking the enemies arse and opening doors. I did not beat the game yet, but thus far I came across no annoying "spend half your time trying to find the key" situations, as key-finding goes hand-in-hand with enemy killing, and there are certain enemies that must be eliminated to proceed and only certain weapons can kill them. The actual fighting in the game is pretty simple and mostly consists of shooting from a distance or, once you get the sabre, positioning yourself between a few enemies and attacking. The boss fights, however, require you to find the bosses pattern and weak points and do some pretty nifty dodging. Overall, Cerberus is a game that is not to be missed by anyone. Other than one flaw in the design, this is a perfect game. A must download. One last thing: The first screen in the game is hard. There is no trick to it though; just dodge the aliens bullets and keep on firing at him when you get the chance and he will die. If you find yourself stuck at any point in the game (one particular part was a bit hard to figure out), there is a walkthrough at the game's homepage. I only recommend using it if you are -really, really- stuck and have no idea what to do, otherwise it will ruin your enjoyment of this great game.

chicken2
Click near chickens and get power ups for more time, if any chickens escape you lose the game. Shooting cost time, don't shoot recklessly. None can escape! Addictive and fun. Warning: This game contains lots of blood. If you dislike blood or like chickens, this game will offend you. Note: This game is not impressive and has very simplistic graphics. You probably won't like this game nearly as much as I do.
Chicken Invaders Installer 130
Chicken Invaders is a high quality Galaxian/Space Invaders combo clone. However, it has several features not found in the original space invaders games. Your character's goal is to destroy the chicken army using his missiles and gradually improving weapon. Drumsticks and gift boxes strengthen your fighting capability. Unlike the original space invaders game, Chicken Invaders features high quality 3-d graphics, asteroid levels, and even bosses. It also includes a high score.
cube_2005_08_29_win32
Cube is a game that has a potential to become the best freeware game ever in the genre of 3D Doom games (eg Quake). The game author has managed to code a game engine based on OpenGL and SDL that renders a 3-dimentionality that is truely dazzling. On top of that, the rendering is lightning fast in comparison with other FPS games that I have played. What you won't see is the traditional handheld weapon that traditional FPS games have. Press ESC to enter the game menu where you can choose map, single/network mode and more. The single player mode recently includes spawning monsters. The author's homepage posts the current list of servers for network playing (we never explored the network option during reviewing). The game comes with a map editor and a good editor tutorial which allows you to create your own maps. This update (after about 6 months) includes: new mapmodels, new textures, animation, a new soundtrack, and more.

The maker of Molefest made this unique game. Unlike most pipes clones, Baroll uses hexagonal pieces. Each level begins with pieces in place, you must rearrange them to allow the barrels to roll into their slots. Unlike in pipes, you can allow a few leaks. However, letting too many barrels break causes you to lose. Comes with 2 level sets and the ability to create more. Baroll has really nice graphics and sound. It contains multiple tilesets so the levels (a total of 72 levels) never get boring. I suggest selecting the easy level set for your first games. Comes with a high score feature. More levels available from the homepage.

win_catapultsThis is the first time I have ever been impressed by a Connect 4 game. This version of Connect 4 has two modes. Classic mode is exactly the same thing as Connect 4. Real-time mode is very different. The catapults are able to be shot simultaneously, causing an explosion between the intersecting projectiles. Sheep can also be shot with the catapults and bombs can be used to ruin your opponent's construction. 4 player games are possible in real time mode. Catapults can be given new skins (none are available as of this review). This is a unique and fun implementation of Connect 4 with nice graphics and sound. Source code is available on the home page.
