He talks all the way around the real issue and never realizes what it is. WE NEED TO MAKE HEALTH INSURANCE GO AWAY! Right now our healthcare system is in the pockets of healthcare insurance executives, VP's, CEO's and shareholders. Shareholders are guilty by association only, the executive, VP's and CEO's are the real demons!
The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, DC 20500 Phone: (202) 456-1414
Dear Mr. President Sir,
It’s very curious that when you buy auto insurance in this country you never have to be concerned about dying if you purchase the wrong one. It may cost you more money but you won’t die. However isn’t it strange that if you buy the wrong health insurance it could kill you and has killed thousands over the years?
To help you understand further what I’m trying to say, I received a call from my wife’s physical therapist office asking for payment. When I told them that we were in the middle of bankruptcy and could not pay the bill the financial manager said, “Well tell your wife that she will not be allowed back until the bill is paid in full”. Right now my wife desperately needs that physical therapy or she may loose the use of her right wrist entirely. It seems medicine is all about the money!
So when you think that healthcare in this country is not about the money, YOU ARE WRONG, it is entirely about money. This is just a scratch at the surface of what is about to happen in this country. No one seems to understand that medaling with the status quo of Healthcare Insurance could bring the entire system down and kill millions. Based on what I mentions in the previous paragraph, what would happens if a dialysis patient’s bills stopped being paid, or the insulin dependant diabetic had to pay full price for his medication but didn’t have the resource to. How about the heart patient that need surgery today but his insurance isn’t even there to answer the phone let alone approve it. All these people and ten million more just like them will die because of a naive President that had good intentions but fail to really understand the consequence of real power in this country, money.
Let it also be said that any reform that our current administration attempts will NOT make anything better. In fact things may get very bad since if these changes our government is suggesting angers health insurance moguls and they begin to loose their enormous profits they could pull support from everywhere. Who would suffer? Not understanding what our health care system really needs could cause the death of thousands, perhaps millions. No one seems to understand how broken our system is. Everyone watches the death of our greatest entertainer of all time knowing that it was cause by our broken healthcare system and yet no one holds the system accountable only the doctor. Sure we arrest the doctor but he will never go to jail and no one will ever question the system that killed him.
Health insurance is the most lucrative business in the world. Where else can you ask your clients to pay thousands of dollars each year and provide them nothing for it? Ask yourself, does health insurance really provide a service or a product, seems to me that insurance is only in the way to getting good healthcare. However with that said going after these monumental wealth giants may make our health system vulnerable. If these changes our government is suggesting angers health insurance moguls and they begin to loose their enormous profits they could pull support from everywhere. Who would suffer? Not understanding what our health care system really needs could cause the death of thousands, perhaps millions on top of everyone that is dying now.
Insurance is only one of the two main problems with our system; the core of our system itself has a big problem, doctors. In order to understand this gigantic problem with our healthcare system one has to look all the way back to the legalization of abortion. You know, Roe versus Wade! Now I am not trying to explore the morality of abortion just its effect on our way of life.
When abortion was legalized in 1973 all doctors were suddenly forced to live with a constant contradiction due to the Oath they were all required to take. The Hippocratic Oath, at the bottom of this document, has a reference to abortion in it. It directly forbids doctors to assist in any way with helping to cause an abortion. The actual statement, “I will not give a pessary to cause an abortion”, can only be interpreted one way, “I will not assist in causing an abortion”.
Now others may argue that this oath became out dated at the advent of surgery hundreds of years ago and the Hippocratic Oath was obsolete long ago. Some seem to equate the idea of cutting someone open violates the oath mandate, “I will do no harm” or “I will not cut for stone even in the patient which the disease is manifest”. Both of these statements are left to interpretation just as the abortion statement is but these statements in the Oath are always mutilated. “I will do no harm” is really, “I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.” The “I will not cut” statement is often left without its second part. Here is the entire line in the oath, “I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art”. There is no confusion about whether or not surgery violates the mandates in this Oath, it does not. The only mandate that ever was in opposition to this Oath was the mandate our own government set forth when abortion was legalized.
In 1999 this Oath was completely eliminated and the only requirement of doctors any longer is to get a license from the State in which they practice. As far as good judgment and morality, all doctors refer that to their regulator, the government and a little thing called the, “Standard of Care”. The “Standard of Care”, please remember this postulate for I have a story to tell.
On May 11th, 2009 after arguing with my doctor for five and a half years about being addicted to narcotics I finally had to walk away from his practice. He would not assist me in any way to get down off the addiction he had been supplying for five years. However please understand that I was not just arbitrarily taking narcotics I had been suffering with arthritis since I had been ten years old, so there was good reason. But let me also point out that this doctor, as well as all doctors never bothered to explain to me that after a certain amount of time taking narcotics, your symptom will be exacerbated rather than mask. This is true for any condition and for any long term use of narcotics but doctors seldom if ever tell their patients this
During the five or six years I knew I was addicted I worked very hard to find help but found none. I contacted over 1796 facilities across this country and once any of them learnt of my other medical problems they dropped my like a lead balloon, however, I did finally find a facility out in California. Boy was I about to get a lesson about the, “Standard of Care”.
To put it in as few words as possible, I was treated by a Practical Nurse posing as a doctor, force to give my own injections, beating up, ignored, and provided a stand in therapist with no experience that never engages me throughout my entire stay. The police in Sausalito California were even called on behave of the facility. When they arrived the facility wanted me arrested, for what I will never know. However when the police found out I was there voluntarily they could do nothing since all I wanted was to leave. I requested to press assault charges against Alta Mira and police refused to take a report.
This wonderful treatment cost between $44,000 and $48,000 a month. After sixteen days of this I left and determined that if I was going to get off narcotics I was going to have to do it on my own. They did however addict me to a lethal medicine that if I did not get back off it, it was going to kill me, “Suboxone”. This drug was given to me before any medical test was accomplished and after I had suffered in withdraw for eight days.
When my test return they determined I had hepatitis-C and my liver was in poor shape but I was already addicted to the new drug. This stuff is so addictive that after just one dose you’re hooked.
Unfortunately I knew nothing about this drug and once again relied on, “their” better judgment. I will never ever do this again with any medical professional. The individual responsible for my daily needs lied to me four different times regarding this drug. I no longer trust anything about our medical system since my trust has been fractured twelve times. I no longer believe anyone in our medical system has my best interest at heart, they only have theirs.
Well after returning home my wife sent in a complaint to the California medical board with pictures graphically depicting my injuries. One bruise even had the imprint of a tennis shoe where I was held to the ground. The response from the California medical board is as follows: “It has been determined that the doctor in questioned did not violate the Medial Practice Act and followed the Standard of Care in your case. No further action will be taken case closed”, there’s that axiom again. There is still an outstanding complaint against the PN posing as a doctor but I doubt anything will ever come of it but I do know that Alta Mira is now closed down.
After a bit I choose to complain to the West Virginia medial board about the treatment I received from the doctor that help me remain addicted. I outlined my complaint thoroughly. The doctor responded to my complaint in the typical manner. “This is all news to me, I thought this patient loved me”, exclaims my illiterate doctor. However, he made a critical mistake, HE LIED TO THE BOARD. One of my complaints was that he indiscriminately pushed narcotics on me and my wife. His response and I quote, “After I started him on Kadian his dose was never altered and remained the same until he left my practice”.
In my response I provide a new statement accusing this doctor of lying to the medical board and provided proof. I provided them pharmacy record that showed this doctor increased my Kadian to a lethal dose, yet the West Virginia Medical Board was unmoved by my proof and issued the following determination: “It has been determined that the doctor in questioned did not violate the Medial Practice Act and followed the Standard of Care in your case. No further action will be taken case closed”, there’s that axiom again. After reading this can you explain to me what the hell the, “Standard of Care” is, seems to me there is none.
Addiction is a terrible thing I’ve known of it all my life but you mustn’t pass judgment on me since my addiction was one of innocence and ignorance, it was up to the doctors to help me see the light. None of them cared enough to explain the cold hard truth that I will have to deal with my pain since narcotics will only make it worst. Since doctors in this country have faith in one thing, money, the compassion that was necessary to help a patient see the light was never there. My complaints issued to two different presiding committees, in two different municipalities, outlining a series of different issues and both receive the exact same standard form letter result. Do these people actually meet and decide this stuff or is it all just a white wash?
I’ve tried to make it clear that our medical system will not improve under any administration if it is to continue being run by doctors and insurance companies. The fact is healthcare cost money but if most the money goes in the pockets of big insurance and doctors, how does the actual health care get paid for? Now we are down to the crust of the issue, our healthcare system is bankrupt and the reason has already been articulated. Our healthcare system resides in the pocket of large insurance companies and doctors.
The very first thing that is needed is to close down these companies and force them to return the healthcare dollar stolen by a crocked system. Since most doctors have a financial symbiosis with their insurance companies the one action of taking them down will take care of both problems. Then we need to start from ground up and build a brand new system. Sooooooo if we are to rebuild our whole medical system anew then why not just include the entire world. Since every country in the world suffers with an overburdened medical system, to provide healthcare on a global basis would be both prudent and looking to the future, it could save millions of dollars by just the reduction in duplication of services alone.
Since each human whether he is a Muslim, Christian or Buddhist require the exact same healthcare a universal system throughout the entire world could bring good healthcare to million as well as necessary new standards in this country. The only current global system now is a simple sharing of ideas nothing more but a medical system dedicated to the prevention and correction of injury or disease with one standard globally for the entire world could save the world trillions.
The entire idea could start very small by first gathering agreements from our nearest neighbors to begin a dialogue along these lines. Then the important particulars would come together in the first, “World Healthcare Consortium Summit” to work out a mission statement and a, “Healthcare Bill of Rights”, after that the sky’s the limit. I know I have made this sound simple when I know it is not but this is an action that will be required of every country on earth if they are to provide good standardized care in the future.
In conclusion, I love this country; I fought for this country and I believe that this country can overcome its problems but only if government will listen to its people. Mr President, your people are telling you:
“MEDICINE IS NOT GOING TO BE REFORMED IT IS ONLY GOING TO GET WORST UNTIL THE ENTIRE SYSTEM FAILS AND MILLIONS DIE. WE MUST STAND UP NOW AND SCREAM AS LOUD AS WE CAN, WE DESERVE BETTER THEN THIS. WE DESERVE A NEW SYSTEM, NOW!”
Sincerely,
Dr. Julian A. Gothican
The Hippocratic Oath
I swear by Apollo, the healer, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and my judgment, the following Oath and agreement: To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him; To look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art. I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone. I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion. But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts. I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art. In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves. All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession or in daily commerce with men, which ought not to be spread abroad, I will keep secret and will never reveal. If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy my life and practice my art, respected by all men and in all times; but if I swerve from it or violate it, may the reverse be my lot
